Exercises
LapSim Gyn contains four exercises, listed below.
- Tubal occlusion
- Salpingectomy
- Tubotomy
- Myoma suturing
This training task entails using one hand to navigate the camera and the other to manipulate an instrument. Either hand may be used for either purpose. This exercise introduces two new instruments new to the LapSim System: biopolar grasper and diathermic scissors. These are used alternately with the instrument hand to cauterise, cut and resect the Fallopian tube. Alternatively, clips may be applied prior to cutting. If bleeding occus, a suction device is available.

In this exercise, the camera is zoomable but static, leaving both hands free for instrument usage. As the task begins, the extopic pregnancy is bleeding, requiring rinsing and suction. The ectopic pregnancy is then cut free from the Fallopian tube and surrounding membrane, using biopolar graspers, and/or a clip applicator along with diathermic scissors. The task is ended by enclosing the ectopic pregnancy in the endoscopic basket.

This operation is another variation of the ectopic pregnancy procedure, in which it is desirable to leave the Fallopian tube functional after the procedure. (For instance, if the other Fallopian tube is damaged, and the patient desires a normal pregnancy.) By its nature, this operation is more delicate than its counterpart. More care is needed to extracts the extopic pregnance with as little damage to the surrounding tissue as possible.

This training task is the most demanding in the Gyn package, requiring the user to suture and close the uterine wall cavity caused by a myectomy. The procedure is performed using two graspers, needle and thread. Spherical targets indicate where the stitches should be placed, changing colour to denote a successfully performed step. Once the three required sutures have been placed correctly, tightened and tied, the exercise ends automatically.
